Latin students at Sandy Run Middle school were honored late in the school year for their achievements in national and regional contests. On the National Latin Exam, a test given in 12 countries on six levels, Jasmine Porter and Eric Mercede earned Gold Medals “Summa Cum Laude.” Silver, “Maxima Cum Laude” awards were presented to Katherine Waltman, Michael Deng, Marissa Holl, Madeleine Marlowe, Vivian Zhong and Joshua Holbrook. Courtney Vincent, Paul Chung earned “Magna Cum Laude” and “Cum Laude” honors went to Gabriela Jones. Seven students in seventh grade earned ribbons: Emily Wu, Hannah Dorsey, Noah Carver, Grace Palmer, Eric Stone, Adam Simon, Gabby Bloom. earning certificates for their achievment were: Tori Sandler, Cameron Knight, Colin Leaming, Marina Duka, Ashley Huh, Kate McKee and Hannah Holbrook. Emily Wu earned additional recognition for submiting a perfect paper. In the Philadelphia Classical Society Regional Project Contest the Sandy Run Latinists earned first place for six projects or writings that were entered. Honors went to Sennett Yang, Lauren Kintzley, Gaby Bloom, Vivian Zhong, Emily Wu and Courtney Vincent. Entries from Emily and Courtney were named “Best of Show.” 21 entries earned 2nd and 3rd place recognition in writing, drawing, sculpture and models. Congratulations to all of these students and their teacher “Magistra” Tina Moller.
