Anne M Frank, Director of the Wissahickon Valley Public Library recently accepted a donation from Joanne Leva, Executive Director of the Mongomery County Poet Laureate (MCPL) Program.
Leva, along with Elizabeth Rivers, organized this year's Poetry Writers in the Schools (Poetry WITS) contest in local schools. The Poetry WITS program showcases student poetry writing and encourages the teaching of poetry. This year the students donated a portion of their contest entrance fee to support the Ambler branch of the library. Students participated in an Open Mic performance of their original writing at the Ambler branch library. Another generous donation to the library came from the Zion Baptist Church in Ambler. Zion recently held its 6th annual Heath and Wellness Fair at which Linda Lion from the Wissahickon Public Library demonstrated the resources and family-oriented programs offered by the Library. In preparation for the Heath Fair, Mary Duckett, Joy McClendon, Sean Cleary, Marla Cope and Alma Willis coordinated with Pastor Gerald L. Chapman, Sr. to hold a book drive for children's books. A portion of the books were designated for the Wissahickon Valley Public Library
