When you’ve been in business for almost 90 years, you make a lot of friends and have a lot of people to thank for your success. And that’s just what the Fort Washington-based law firm Timoney Knox, LLP did at a recent cocktail reception at Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting.
More than 300 clients, friends of the firm and employees gathered to celebrate nearly nine decades of practicing law, the growth of the firm and service to both clients and the public. The firm, now 24 lawyers strong with offices in Fort Washington, Lancaster and Mt. Carmel, was begun by a single lawyer, Thomas A. For, in 1921 from an office on Butler Pike in Ambler. Many name changes and several office locations have come and gone since then as the firm has evolved and grown.
At the reception, managing partenr, George Riter also singled out the firm’s employees for their loyalty and contributions to the firm’s success. Though Timoney Knox has realized considerable growth, it has managed to retain a corps of extraordinarily loyal employees. Many have been with the firm for more than 20 years.
Riter noted, with pride, that members of the firm have long taken active roles in both government service, civic, charitable and community organizations and have been tapped for leadership positions in professional associations, including county and state bar associations. Several Timoney Knox partners have moved on to judgeships including Louis D. Steffan and Mason Avrigan Sr., now retired from the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, the Honorable Arthur Tilson, Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, and the Honorable Robert Benischeck, a Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation judge. Others hold elected positions such as State Representative Kate Harper and Ann Weiss, Clerk of Courts of Montgomery County.
