Little Lebowski Fest scheduled for Ambler Theater
Email Print
The “Dude” returns to the Ambler Theater for the 5th annual Little
Lebowski Fest. One of the most popular events that take place at the
theater, the evening will include a costume competition, trivia and
prizes and will feature a screening of The Big Lebowski (1998). The
fest will take place on Wednesday, July 20th at 7:00 pm.
The Big Lebowski is a 1998 American comedy written and directed by
Joel and Ethan Coen. Jeff Bridges stars as Jeff Lebowski, an
unemployed Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler, who is referred to
and also refers to himself as "The Dude". The Dude is introduced to a
millionaire also named Jeffrey Lebowski after a case of mistaken
identity. When the millionaire Lebowski's trophy wife is later
kidnapped, he commissions the Dude to deliver the ransom to secure
her release. The plan goes awry when the Dude's friend Walter Sobchak
(John Goodman) schemes to keep the full ransom. Steve Buscemi, Philip
Seymour Hoffman, David Huddleston, Julianne Moore, and John Turturro
star in the film, which is narrated by a cowboy known only as
"Stranger," played by Sam Elliott.
The film's structure has been compared to Raymond Chandler's novel,
The Big Sleep. The original score was composed by Carter Burwell, a
longtime collaborator of the Coen Brothers. The film failed
domestically at the U.S. box office and it received mixed reviews at
the time of its release. Reviews have trended towards the positive
over time, and the film has become a cult favorite noted for its
idiosyncratic characters, surreal dream sequences, unconventional
dialogue, and eclectic soundtrack.
The Little Lebowksi Fest has two levels of ticketing. There is the
regular admission ($9.75/General and $4.75/Members.) And, for a more
enriching festival experience, there are Achiever tickets. The
Achiever tickets include a limited edition 2011 Little Lebowski Fest
T-shirt and a “complimentary dude beverage.” That’s right, like The
Dude, this movie can be seen as it was meant to be seen…while holding
a White Russian. Achiever Tickets are $15 General / $13 Member.
The Ambler Theater (108 E. Butler Ave., Ambler,
www.AmblerTheater.org) is a nonprofit, community owned organization,
which presents a full program of art and independent films daily.
Tickets for members are $4.75 and nonmembers at $9.75. Achiever
tickets, which include a special edition t-shirt and a “dude
beverage”, are available at $15 ($13 for Members). Tickets are
available online and at the box office. Brochures of all programs are
available at the theaters.
