Jarrettown Elementary Race for Education
The Jarrettown PTA sponsored their 3rd annual Race for Education on
Friday, May 13th. The students of Jarrettown Elementary wrote
letters to friends, family, neighbors and local businesses asking for
their support in sponsoring the Race. On the day of the race all
Jarrettown students and staff walked a quarter mile course at the
school as many times as they could in an hour. Many children made
more than 20 laps! With every 4 laps completed they received beaded
necklaces and bracelets to mark their accomplishments. There was
music, cheering family members and enthusiastic runners!
Due to the generosity of many contributors, raised nearly $21,000.
Organizers would like to thank all those, including many local
businesses for their generosity. Most of the donations amounted to
less than $20 so there are many who contributed and many who deserve thanks.
The Jarrettown Elementary Race for Education has raised $63,000 over
the past three years. That money has been used to outfit every
classroom at Jarrettown with Interwrite board technology. The
teachers use the boards all day long to enhance the student learning
process. With this year’s funds, the PTA hopes to install more
classroom computers for student use next year.
Kristin Haas and Christine Flynn co-chaired the Race this year for
the third time. They organized all aspects of this “community”
fundraising effort and the Jarrettown community pulls together for
children.
