The Copeland String Quartet, all long-time members of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, will present a program of music that balances its impressive musical repertoire with audience interaction. “We’ve found that this approach succeeds in fostering greater pleasure and understanding of the music for both adults and children, and part of St. John’s spiritual mission is to encourage that love of classical music,” says violist Nina Cottman, a Norristown native. The quartet was formed in 2003 and is named for its sponsor, Tatiana Copeland, the grand niece of Sergei Rachmaninoff. It has played in concert venues throughout Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as at colleges and universities in the area. In addition the musicians play with other local orchestras like the Kennett Symphony, the Reading Symphony and the Philly Pops. Ms. Cottman’s musical journey has included stints with the Colorado Philharmonic and the Oakland Symphony. She teaches and coaches chamber music groups at Settlement Music School. Violinist Eliezer Gutman has soloed in France, England, Spain, Israel and the United States. Cellist Mark Ward has toured with the Pennsylvania Ballet Company. Both teach at Delaware’s St. Andews School. Violinist Thomas Jackson adds early music ensembles like the Pennsylvania Pro Musica to his resume. He teaches at Valley Forge Christian College. St. John’s is at 24 N. Ridge Ave., Ambler. Free parking is available behind Ambler Savings Bank. For more information call 215-646-2451 or visit www.stjohnsambler.org. |
