Evans-Mumbower Mill, a circa 1835 gristmill, will be open for a guided tours and an on going archeological dig on Sunday, August 15th, from 1-4 pm. A DVD program details the milling industry in the Wissahickon Valley. Costumed guides take you through the mill and the Miller will be grinding corn for the first time since the 1930s. A special feature of the August Open House is a focus on corn – from seed to cakes.

Learn about corn, try your hand at grinding corn, see the corn shucker in action and taste a “corn cake” that is cooked over an open fire. Kids can get a corncob pipe and see displays of real corncob pipes, cornhusk dolls and more.
To take part in the archeological dig, please bring a hat and gloves; you can stay all or part of the day. Experienced archeologists will show you the proper way to dig, sift, clean and catalogue the artifacts. Earlier finds and artifacts are on display inside the Mill.
