15th Annual Celtic Heritage Festival at Graeme Park, Horsham
For the past 15 years, the sounds of “Scotland the Brave” have pulsed
across the grounds of Graeme Park as bagpipers and drummers begin
lining up to march through normally quiet, bucolic Graeme Park to
open the annual Celtic Heritage Festival. The event, which is being
held on Saturday, July 16th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, celebrates the
Scottish Heritage of the Keith, Graeme, and Fergusson families who
lived at Graeme Park in the 18th century and is the Friends of Graeme
Park’s largest fundraising event to support educational and community
programs, operations, and historic preservation of the National
Historic Landmark Keith House at Graeme Park.
Visitors can sit on the shady lawn and enjoy the entertainment, which
includes the traditional sounds of Carl Peterson at noon, the Timoney
and Sabo Schools of Irish Dance at 12:30 and 3:00 pm, the Martin
Family Band at 2:00 and 4:00 pm, and the Hooligans at 5:00 and 6:30
pm. In between acts on the stage, the pipers will be back and the
quieter sounds of WireHarp and Now and Then can be enjoyed in the
courtyard in front of the Keith House, where you can also learn about
how traditional kilts are made from professional kilt-maker Bonnie
Heather Greene, pop into the summer kitchen to see a cooking
demonstration or join a tour of the historic Keith House.
There will be a variety of things to entertain the kids too,
including games and crafts, a moon bounce, the Kilted Juggler, and
balloon animals by Randy Sneeden.
Along with all of the entertainment, vendors with a wide assortment
of Celtic and fine artisan crafts — jewelry, knitwear, kilts, wood
carvings, silver, china, t-shirts, needlework, heraldry, and the like
-will be offering high quality items to avid shoppers. Both Celtic
and American food will be available, so visitors can plan to spend
the day enjoying the music and browsing the vendors and filling up on
delicious food and cold drinks.
Representatives from various Celtic clans and non-profits will be on
hand to discuss family history and heritage and various other aspects
of Celtic culture.
The Celtic Heritage Festival is being held on Saturday, July 16th
from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Admission is $10 for adults (18+) and $5
for youth (6-17). A household rate of $30 is available for two adults
and their accompanying children or grandchildren. Call 215-343-0965
for details. Directions are available at www.graemepark.org. The
event is being sponsored by Power Homes Remodeling Group
(www.powerhrg.com) and Philadelphia Media Network (www.philly.com).
