For the 13th year, Gwynedd-Mercy College will play host to the annual “Touch of Tennis” clinic. On Tuesday nights at 6:30pm through August 9th, men’s and women’s tennis head coach Jim Holt will lead volunteers in teaching special needs individuals the fundamentals of the game. In February, the clinic was honored by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) with its 2010 National Adaptive Service Award for continued excellence and dedication in the community. Holt recognized a lack of social opportunities for those with disabilities and put together the event back in 1998. He also believes that forming a strong support network will help to foster a positive environment. Students from Gwynedd-Mercy College, Saint Joseph’s University, Cabrini College and Moravian College will be involved. Local area high schools will also participate. Other community volunteers are encouraged, and donations can be made to offset equipment costs. Email holt.j@gmc.edu for more information. Gwynedd-Mercy College main campus is situated on Sumneytown Pike between routes 309 and 202 in Gwynedd Valley, Montgomery County. The college offers degree programs for working adults through its Center for Lifelong Learning campuses in Plymouth Meeting and Philadelphia. Learn more at gmc.edu. |
